We just heard about a roofing company called Acorn roofing that is going around scamming our residents! They were going to make a senior pay $80,000 for a new roof when all she had was a small hole and a racoon living there!
They demand money upfront, luckily this resident was only out $2500 BUT they came and took off all the roofing!!! A new roof was not needed!
Please know a few tips when hiring trades:
- Call me first! I have a long list of trades people we have used and know well. 416-902-7653
- Do not pay any money until the job is complete.
- Ask for references and call them. Or better yet, speak to our friends to see if they have someone that they have used.
- Check Google reviews
- If you don’t feel comfortable with them or you feel pressured into making a decision – Don’t use them!
- If your spidy sense is telling you something isn’t right, it isn’t right!
- Verify they have insurance and are licensed. Make them show you their credentials and then call it in to double check its legit!
- Always get 2-3 or more quotes
- Insist on a written contract or an email, text…anything in writing that you can print later if you need it.
- Check out their address. Acorn roofing was on Bay St, right in the middle of the financial district. That seems off to me!
