A few updates regarding SaveDVE:

Michael Couteau shared this update today (the article is only good for today) https://bit.ly/40McH49

and…

Our own local Jackie Street shared a few articles as well:

What this is about:

On February 10th the Federal Electoral Boundaries Commission for Ontario recommended that the federal riding of Don Valley East be eliminated and that the area of the riding east of the Don River be merged with Scarborough Centre, the area west of the Don River be added to a new riding of Don Valley South and a small portion of the riding be attached to Don Valley North. On our website you can see the specific recommendation (https://bit.ly/3nzWAZp) and on the Commission’s website (https://bit.ly/3TUc0Ur).

There is no official process for the public to provide feedback on the Commission’s recommendation but SaveDVE is working hard to organize so that we can have this decision overturned. Based on the Commission timeline, we think we have another month to have an impact.

MP Coteau’s response:

MP Michael Coteau has filed an official objection to the Electoral Boundaries Commission’s proposal and he will be making a presentation to a House of Commons Committee in the next few weeks (we are not sure when).

What SaveDVE is doing:

  • A small organizing committee of volunteers has been meeting every Sunday to raise awareness about the boundary issue.
  • 📷Last Wednesday (March 22) SaveDVE held a community information session at Jubilee United Church which was attended by over 200 people. What a great turnout! We distributed almost 500 signs and raised just over $1,000 by passing the bucket.
  • Our organizing committee met on Sunday and we are continuing with the following measures:Distributing flyers
    Distributing the remaining signs
    Preparing a media info package
  • If we can raise another $2,000 in the next few days we will order more signs. Please consider making a small donation through our website (https://bit.ly/40vvOzZ).

Signs of spring!!

It is nice to see the We Care saveDVE.ca signs springing up around our neighbourhoods. If we are able to raise more money we will distribute more signs.

City council is getting involved:

This week Toronto City Council will consider a motion from North York Councillor Lily Cheng to request that Toronto keep its 25 seats instead of being reduced to 24 seats. You can send a message of support to all City Councillors if you click on the link below and then send a message.

  4. Email our MP, Michael Coteau michael.coteau@parl.gc.ca and explain to him why Don Valley East is important. He will present your email to the House of Commons Committee when he makes his presentation.
